Platform Extensions

Overview
This project was part of the Package 3 portfolio of 15 station projects – Network Rails National Train Lengthening Programme to introduce new 10 car rolling stock along its Sussex Routes.

The Balham and Wandsworth Common platform extensions, inclusive of the demolition and re-build of a wider bridge at Balham and complete track renewal at Balham Junction were successfully delivered over a 10 day Christmas/New Year period named ‘The Balham Blockade’.

It was the first blockade of its kind in 20 years involving 100,000 man hours and was voted and awarded ‘The Project of the Year’ at the National Rail Awards 2013.

Planancy Role
Planancy was an integral part of the delivery team for this ‘award winning’ project, providing the Primavera P6 programming expertise with cost loaded design and construction programmes from Clause 14 stage onwards.

Outcomes
3D civils staging diagrams were produced from Sketch-up software and presented in Microsoft PowerPoint. An additional means of graphical representation was provided through detailed (hour by hour) chainage diagrams.
